A torn ACL will not heal without surgery and most ACL tears cannot be sutured (stitched) back together. To surgically repair the ACL and restore knee stability, the ligament must be reconstructed with an arthroscopic and/or mini-open surgery. Although it is possible to recover from an ACL injury and be active without pain, in the long run this could become a major problem needing a knee replacement surgery.
Without an ACL the knee becomes unstable and the excessive rubbing of the cartilage leads to early osteoarthritis, which continues to degenerate progressively until the pain becomes debilitating. Our orthopedic surgeons perform the most advanced and comprehensive ACL Reconstruction surgeries using autologous or allogeneic ligament grafts and repairing all damaged tissue and meniscus from the injury.
Below is a typical itinerary for someone undergoing ACL Reconstruction surgery with our orthopedic surgeons:
Choosing to undergo ACL Reconstruction surgery with our orthopedic surgeons has several advantages:

TRANSPORTATION & ACCOMMODATION
Your only additional expenses to the cost of surgery package are your transportation and meals outside the hospital. You can learn more about our accommodation options in our Plan Your Trip page.
Your doctor will replace your torn ligament with a tissue/ligament graft. This graft acts as a scaffolding for a new ligament to grow and can be obtained from several sources. Autografts (autologous) are typically taken from the patient’s patellar tendon, which runs between the kneecap and the shinbone. Hamstring tendons, at the back of the thigh, and quadriceps tendons, which runs from the kneecap into the thigh, are also common sources of autografts. Finally, cadaver graft (allograft) can also be used in particular cases.
Surgery to rebuild an anterior cruciate ligament is done with an arthroscope using small incisions. Arthroscopic surgery is less invasive and the benefits of less invasive techniques include less pain from surgery, less time spent in the hospital, and quicker recovery times.
Our orthopedic surgeons have outstanding experience and 99% of their ACL cases recover fully and successfully. Rehabilitation plays a vital role in getting you back to your daily activities. A physical therapy program will help you regain knee strength and motion.
If you have surgery, physical therapy first focuses on returning motion to the joint and surrounding muscles. This is followed by a strengthening program designed to protect the new ligament. This strengthening gradually increases the stress across the ligament. The final phase of rehabilitation is aimed at a functional return tailored to the patient’s lifestyle. Because the regrowth of the graft takes time, it may be 3-6 months or more before someone can return to sports after surgery.
Lastly, our recruitment and compliance teams interview all our orthopedic surgeons in person, visit their facilities, meet past and current patients, and review their medical processes and protocols to confirm they meet the highest standards.
